Geraldine Paredes Vasquez and Laurie Frank join guest host Bert Zipperer to discuss the United World Colleges, a world-wide system of 18 schools that bring students from 149 nations together for the final two years of high school in a boarding school setting.
UWC was started by Kurt Hahn, a refugee from Nazi Germany, as a way to bring people together to learn of each other and thus, to avoid war. The 18 schools are are represented on all continents.
Geraldine Paredes Vasquez attended the UWC School in India almost 20 years ago. She has started a non-profit inter-cultural organization in Bolivia, and is now a staff person at the UWC School in Costa Rica.
Laurie Frank is a local educator who is a volunteer member of the Board of Directors for the UWC School in Costa Rica and she has done extensive work with the curriculum in UWC and has worked with the international UWC organization.
