The 2022 midterm elections are coming up, including the Wisconsin U.S. Senate seat currently held by Ron Johnson. There are eight candidates with ballot access in the Democratic primary and two candidates (including the incumbent) with ballot access in the Republican primary, both of which will be held on Tuesday, August 9.
For today’s Meet the Candidates show, Wednesday host Carousel Bayrd kicks off our coverage of this race by speaking to Sarah Godlewski and Tom Nelson, two of the candidates running in the Democratic primary.
Sarah Godlewski has served as State Treasurer of Wisconsin since 2019. Previously, she worked in national security and foreign affairs and served on the volunteer board of UNICEF. Some of her political priorities include protecting reproductive freedom, addressing gun violence, and supporting agriculture.
Tom Nelson currently serves as county executive of Outagamie County. Before that, he served six years in the Wisconsin State Assembly and was the Democratic majority leader for the 2009–2010 session. Some of his political priorities include fighting for workers’ rights, championing healthcare for all, and investing in our food system.
