On this edition of The Politicast, Alejandro Alonso Galva speaks with former UWPD Police Chief Sue Riseling, discussing her history with UWPD, police in the wake of current threats, and the perception from the public.
Sue Riseling was the first woman and the youngest person ever to become a police chief in the Big 10. The world was a very different place back then, and so was university life. 9/11, Columbine, and Virginia Tech all redefined what we consider normal, and all happened during Riseling’s tenure. .
During her time she’s helped organize security for President Barack Obama, The Dalai Lama, multiple Rose Bowl trips, NCAA tournaments, and more. She served 4 years as the Vice President for the International Association of Chiefs of Police. Her role has covered basic policing such as traffic stops to protecting the university’s sometimes controversial research projects. Now Riseling will leave the UW to lead the International Association of Campus Law Enforcement Administrators.
