MADISON (WORT) — While announcing the agreement on a new arena for the Milwaukee Bucks, Governor Scott Walker declared, “it’s cheaper to keep them.”
Walker described details of the new $500 million Bucks arena at a news conference Thursday. He called it a win for taxpayers.
“Doing nothing was not a good option, said Walker. “It puts more money back into the hands of the state’s taxpayers to pay in the future for schools, investments, and all sorts of other things as opposed to creating a $419 million hole going forward.”
Under the proposal, state and local subsidies would pay up to $250 million for the new sports complex. The state’s contribution towards the new Bucks arena is capped at $4 million dollars per year until 2036.
