Tomorrow through Saturday, the Literacy Network will hold a book sale, with thousands of fantastic used books. All proceeds help keep Literacy Network classes, tutors, and textbooks free for low-literate adults. The book sale will be held at 1124 South Park Street, Thursday and Friday from 10am to 7pm, and Saturday from 10am to 3pm. More info at litnetwork.org.
Starting this September, Groundwork will hold an intensive 6-week workshop that’s open to all community members. The workshop will examine how racism and white privilege affect lives, communities, institutions, and movements for social justice, while developing strategies for prioritizing racial justice both individually and collectively. Childcare is provided. There is a cost, but no one will be turned away for lack of funds. Visit groundworkmadison.com for more info.
The Respite Center is a safe place for kids, ages birth to fourteen, whose families are under stress or in crisis. They’re looking for volunteers to play with kids four hours a week. Training is required. Call 244-5730 for details.
