Today in 1776: New Jersey becomes the first British colony in America to grant partial women’s suffrage.
The new constitution granted the vote to all those, quote, “of full age, who are worth fifty pounds proclamation money,” end-quote. This included non-whites and widows. Married women were not able to own property under common law.

Clean Sweep Hazardous Waste Site is open year-round at the county landfill and operates Tuesdays through Fridays from 7am to 2:45pm, and Saturdays from 8 to 10:45am.
