I had the great opportunity to welcome Kandace Springs to Madison before her upcoming show on Wednesday, August 17th at the Majestic Theater. Kandace and I took time to discuss when she knew she was about to “make it” in the business. Being provided great opportunities from her father, a legendary sessions singer from Nashville, to working with the Wooten Brothers and yes, even getting the call from Prince to join him for the 30th anniversary of Purple Rain were all signs pointing in the riGht direction. We walked through some of the process behind her first LP, “Soul Eyes” on Blue Note Records, sharing a label with one of her heroes, Norah Jones and how she is ready and able to set out on her very first headlining tour, which thankfully, brings her through Madison.
To find out more about Kandace, like what tunes she would proGram if I gave her 30 minutes of Smokey’s Joint, where she goes to be alone with her thoughts and create, as well as the answer to what Paisley Park smelled like on the day she arrived there, check out the interview in this post. Hope to see you at the intimate, seated show on 8/17.
