Two weeks ago, Governor Scott Walker released a proposed budget that, among many other cuts, eliminated most state spending for bicycle improvements. The Governor knew, of course, that while the cuts would rile up Wisconsin’s bicycle advocates, it would also win favor with many motorists across the state who resent sharing the roads with pedal powered vehicles. This is nothing new, according to “Wheel Fever,” a new book from the Wisconsin Historical Society Press. The bicycle has always attracted ardent supporters and fervent opponents, not least in Wisconsin. Nick Hoffman and Jesse Gant just finished the book and joined the Buzz to talk about it.
