As construction continues on Madison’s long-awaited Union Corners development, one group of nearby residents of the area have found themselves booted out of the vicinity. Two weeks ago, “no parking, no standing” signs sprouted up along Winnebago Street extension, apparently aimed at removing an informal encampment of homeless living in their automobiles and recreational vehicles. One week ago, police began enforcing the new no parking regulations, and towed remaining vehicles from the area.
Last week, 8 O’Clock Buzz host Brian Standing caught up with two former residents of the area, Dave Berndt and Kyle Helgeson, to ask them how they were coping with the unexpected eviction of the camp.
