As we enter into the third week of August, only two states in the United States have yet to pass a state budget: Connecticut and Wisconsin. Wisconsin’s budget, now over a month overdue, has stalled, primarily due to deep divides between Governor Scott Walker, the State Senate and the State Assembly about how to address Wisconsin’s deterioriating roads and bridges.
The state’s pledge to come up with billions of dollars of cash payments to lure Taiwanese electronics firm Foxconn to the state has only added to the turmoil. Needless to say, nothing’s getting done on any of the budget fronts, including education, health care and more.
Joining Eight O’Clock Buzz host Brian Standing to shed light on this mess is Senator Lena Taylor, from Milwaukee. Senator Taylor sits on the Joint Finance Committee. Also joining Brian in the studio, is research analyst Tamarine Cornelius, of the Kids Forward organization, formerly known as the Wisconsin Council on Children and Families.
