Yesterday, the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources’ policy board increased licensing costs for sulfide mining in the state. As part of the policy changes, the board is also setting aside places that are no-go zones for sulfide mining — including wildlife refuges and other places of environmental significance.
But do the new policies go far enough?
They don’t. At least, that’s according to Allison Werner, the Policy and Advocacy Director for the River Alliance of Wisconsin.
Earlier today, WORT Producer Jonah Chester spoke with Werner to discuss the new policy changes and why she feels they don’t do enough to protect Wisconsin’s natural resources.
