On Tuesday, Wisconsin’s Assembly Republicans — led by Speaker Robin Vos — introduced a one hundred million dollar coronavirus relief package.
One of the central pillars of the package seeks to reduce the state’s Unemployment Insurance backlog — an issue the state’s Department of Workforce Development has spent months trying to solve.
For more on the woes the DWD has faced in recent months, and how Vos and his fellow Republicans are hoping to fix it, WORT Producer Jonah Chester spoke with Bram Sable-Smith, an investigative reporter with the Wisconsin Center for Investigative Journalism.
Sable-Smith just co-authored an in-depth report that examines the DWD’s protracted battle with its own unemployment system.
