In April, after a story by the Wisconsin Center for Investigative Reporting revealed the widespread use of the practice, several Wisconsin hospitals vowed to stop filing small claims suits against uninsured patients with unpaid medical bills.
But, even as the financial impact of the pandemic deepened, that didn’t stop hospital leadership from seeking other legal routes to recoup their money.
