In Wisconsin, Black men convicted of felonies have a 28% greater likelihood of ending up in prison compared to their white counterparts. That’s according to a report commissioned by Wisconsin Chief Supreme Court Justice Patience Roggensack that was completed last January.
But, the report – which examines racial disparities in sentencing – wasn’t released to the general public, or even members of Wisconsin’s judiciary, until Friday — when the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel published the findings publicly for the first time.
