We are in the middle of our first week for the Fall Pledge Drive on WORT! The pledge drive will run from 10-14 to 10-26. We are listener-sponsored community radio station and we depend on your donations for about 66% of our overall budget. Without you, WORT would not be able to run. SO TURN ON, TUNE IN, AND DROP DOUGH! If you donate $50 or more during the A Public Affair hour (12pm-1pm) you can receive a free copy of the book discussed on air – and we have some great books coming up the next couple days. You can call us at (608) 256-2001 or toll free at (866) 899-WORT (9678), or pledge securely online here. Thank you so for listening and all of your support!
Is it pop or soda? Do you say bubbler or water fountain? On Wednesday October 16th, our host Tim Hansel discussed the book “Wisconsin Talk: Linguistic Diversity in the Badger State” with one of its authors Eric Raimy. We learned a lot about the history of Wisconsin dialect, how the linguistics differ around the state, and why we say certain phrases or words here in the badger state.
An engaging survey for both general readers and language scholars, Wisconsin Talk brings together perspectives from linguistics, history, cultural studies, and geography to illuminate why language matters in our everyday lives.- UW Press
