With an inspiring fifty seven percent favorable vote workers at the Amazon warehouse in Staten Island New York selected the Amazon Labor Union as their union. They overcame Amazon’s steadfast resistance and showed that Amazon workers want a say in their conditions of work. Their victory is the first breakthrough in Amazon’s heretofore successful efforts at union avoidance. The company paid roughly $4.3 million to anti-union consultants in 2020, according to documents filed with the Department of Labor Thursday night, showcasing the importance of the Staten Island election and others like it.
Meanwhile in Bessemer Alabama, as of broadcast time, the vote is too close to call. There are over 400 contested votes- enough to change the outcome of the election in favor of the union. The closeness of the vote represents a victory as the union was overwhelmingly defeated last year ..
