Here’s some of the music we played the most last week on the station, including jazz, world, metal and indie rock. Madison favorite Jason Isbell, a former member of Drive-By Truckers, races to the top of the charts with a new album from his band The 400 Unit. Also of note are new albums from Chuck Berry, The Drums and Secret Sisters. Berry’s album of all new material, simply entitled “Chuck,” was recorded before his recent passing and a single had been released a few months ago. Other highlights include a lot of great new albums from the likes of Jessica Hernandez & the Deltas, Fleet Foxes, King Gizzard & the Lizard Wizard, KMFDM, Lee Bains III & the Glory Fires and Moby. Our Loud Rock chart includes metal, industrial, punk and other hard rock and bands like Danzig and Mutoid Man cross over to some regular rock shows as well. WORT’s indie/rock programming happens weeknights between 8 pm-5 am as well as on Friday afternoons and Tuesday morning’s folk/rock mix.
On the Jazz side of things, Diana Krall continues to rule with her brilliant Turn Up The Quiet on Verve. A new supergroup collaboration, Hudson includes Jack DeJohnette, John Medeski, Larry Grenadier and John Scofield. And Preservation Hall Jazz Band celebrates their new album with a tour to include Madison’s Live On King Street series on Friday, July 14. Listen to jazz on WORT every Monday through Thursday from 2-5 pm.
Our World charts include African, Middle-Eastern music and more with popular performers such as Oumau Sangare, Tinariwen and Vieux Farka Toure as well as reggae from Morgan Heritage and Jon Wayne & the Pain. You can hear much of this music here on Saturday and Sunday afternoons as well as Monday and Thursday mornings from 9 am-noon, and on demand on our archives for two weeks after they’ve aired.
