This week Offa Rex (pictured) rules the top 30 with their debut release on Nonesuch Records. A collaboration between The Decemberists and English singer/multi-instrumentalist Olivia Chaney, the album is a transatlantic musical conversation of modern psychedelic folk-rock steeped in traditional sounds of the British Isles.
Also of note are new releases from Lee Bains III and the Glory Fires, who recently were back in town to preach their fiery and topical Southern garage-gospel on August 14th in an intimate show at the Frequency; and Rainer Maria, who formed in Madison in the mid-90s before relocating to Brooklyn. Reuniting after 11 years for their first new album since 2006, the trio has a number of gigs lined up, which will hopefully include their hometown soon.
