We are seeking a volunteer to assist this unique show make its way on the airwaves every Monday evening, from 7-8PM.
The Access Hour is a variety show with a twist – a different member of the community hosts the show each Monday. As such, you are responsible for the scheduling and coordination of guest hosts, promotion of the show online, and ensuring any questions from the community are answered in a timely fashion.
BASIC RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Receive and respond to Access Hour applications.
- Schedule guest hosts and maintain internal Access Hour calendar.
- Inform each guest host of Access Hour rules.
- Post to the Access Hour calendar on the WORT website with information about each show.
- Schedule a station “promo” for each Access Hour.
- Post an article about each Access Hour to the WORT website.
- Ensure digital and broadcast copyright rules are observed.
- Review pre-recorded shows for indecency, profanity, commercialism, etc.
- Fill in as needed as the engineer for the Access Hour.
- Update the Access Hour scheduling spreadsheet.
- Arrange for an approved trained substitute as needed.
- Participate in station pledge drives and training.
- Follow all station and FCC rules.

DISCLOSURES:
Every voice can be a voice on community radio. WORT’s mission is to “include audiences and programmers underrepresented by other media.” People who are Black, Indigenous, women, transgender, and/or nonbinary are strongly invited to apply.
WORT has taken strong precautions during the COVID-19 pandemic. Only fully vaccinated, on-air programmers are currently permitted into the station during the pandemic. Programmers must present proof of vaccination to use WORT’s studios. Programmers, including news hosts, may alternatively broadcast from home during the pandemic using virtual software and a USB microphone, which is provided by WORT.
WORT staff regularly clean studios and disinfect equipment. WORT upgraded its HVAC system/air exchange during the pandemic to ensure constant air flow out of the building. Masks are and have been enforced at the station throughout the pandemic, though exceptions apply when hosts are on-air.
ABOUT WORT:
WORT is a noncommercial, community radio station broadcasting from downtown Madison to south-central Wisconsin. We are a full-power station broadcasting on the 89.9 FM frequency, online 24/7, through the WORT app and other third-party radio apps, and through podcasts.
We are volunteer-powered, which means that all programmers you hear (including this position) are unpaid volunteers. In return, we provide skills training, professional real-world broadcasting experience, and a community of friends and colleagues.
