On December 1, 2000 WORT celebrated its 25th birthday by throwing a party at Luther’s Blues in Madison. Mississippi Heat with special guest Billy Boy Arnold provided the entertainment. On Blues Cruise April 24th from 6 to 8 PM Central time, we will be rebroadcasting a 2 hour radio special on Billy Boy Arnold. This show was broadcast a few weeks before our Birthday Party. Billy Boy got his start together with Bo Diddley playing on street corners in Chicago before releasing a monster two-sided hit 45 Bo Diddley/I’m a Man on Chess in 1955. It reached #1 on the R&B charts. Billy Boy would go his own way and found success on the VJ label with “I Wish You Would” recorded later that year. On Saturday night April 25th from 8 to 10 PM, I’ll be broadcasting a portion of an interview I did with Mississippi Heat bandleader, Pierre LaCocque. This will be followed by over an hour of Mississippi Heat’s performance with Billy Boy Arnold from the Birthday Party. This concert has not been heard since December 2000 and then only for those fortunate enough to have attended the event. You will definitely want to hear these 2 shows this coming week.
