The WORT Underground Stage presents an eclectic bill of Badger State bands this Sunday (9/18), from noon till 7:00 p.m., at the fabulous 39th annual Willy Street Fair. The Underground Stage will again be located in the Struck & Irwin lot at 826 Williamson Street.

The fun starts at noon with the surf/cowpunk sounds of Wood Chickens, followed by psychedelic goth-pop trio Neens at 1:10, Lurk Hards (rockabilly/punk) at 2:20, Me eN You (soulful hip-hop/funk) at 3:30, Control (hard psych-rock) at 4:40, and finishing off with The Grovelers at 5:50 p.m. No need to beg for variety here.
You can also meet your favorite WORT music hosts at the fair. PC Allen (One Fine Morning) will introduce Wood Chickens. Dave 3000 (Kosmik Radiation) will give you Neens. Bad Sister Heidi (Psychoacoustics) will welcome Lurk Hards. Mr. G and DJ Mr. Dance (Saturday Night at Smokey’s Joint) will spin tunes before presenting Me eN You. Cooper T (Her Infinite Variety) will set up Control. And, finally, El Serpentine (Friday on My Mind & Rattlesnake Shake) will introduce The Grovelers.
The Grovelers proffer a bracing blend of ’50s rockabilly, ’60s garage rock and ’80s punk. They are a mixed-gender foursome, featuring Skip on vocals & harmonica, Graff on guitar & vocals, Freight Train Dane (Didier) on drums, and Lemonie Fresh on bass & vocals. A mainstay of street festivals in the Brew City, The Grovelers formed in Milwaukee in 2013. They released their debut CD, Derelicts & Screw-ups, last year.
