WORT hosts Bo$$ Lady and Mr. G will appear as panelists at the Radio: Unlocked conference in Madison on Saturday (9/17). It will be held from 2:00 to 5:00 p.m. at the Madison Media Institute (MMI), 2702 Agricultural Drive.

Presented by MMI and the non-profit Urban Community Arts Network (UCAN), the conference is aimed at “musicians who want to learn about airplay, royalties, encoding and more.”
WORT 89.9 FM Community Radio will be represented at the conference by a pair of music hosts: Bo$$ Lady of the Universal Soul Explosion (Saturday nights, 3:00 to 6:00 a.m.), and Mr. G, co-host of Saturday Night at Smokey’s Joint (Saturdays, 10:00 p.m. to midnight) as well as a DJ at WSUM.
Mr. G has been doing left-side-of-the-dial radio for over 10 years, focusing on getting the voice of the artists out there. Not only the music, but the story behind it – the art and the artist. He believes that radio is a key bridge to opening minds to new sounds and new people, while building communities around those sounds, wherever the listener calls home.

In addition to her volunteer work since 2011 for WORT, Rebecca “Bo$$ Lady” Barber is a vital member of Madison’s socially conscious rap and hip hop community. She serves as a board member of UCAN and the Madison Hip Hop Awards; works as a promoter, manager and producer; and provides a key link for “shout outs” between incarcerated fans and their loved ones.
