What was that song I heard? Who was the artist, what is the album title, where can I get it? Where can I find the entire playlist for a show?

Click on the Playlists button to bring up a calendar where you can choose any date to find the playlists for that day. If you can’t find the right playlist or the song you’re looking for, your best bet is to call the station the next time that program’s on and ask the host yourself. If that’s not possible we may be able to help you, but please have as much information as possible at hand when you contact us, such as: approximate day and time the music was played, what type or genre of music it was, who hosted the show and any other information you remember about the selection and we’ll do our best to track it down.

How do I get my music played on WORT?

We accept submissions in most genres and styles of music, focusing on noncommercial, out-of-the-mainstream, independent releases (check out our playlists and music charts for more information.) It may take up to a few weeks for us to review and process your submission so we appreciate your patience, and feel free to contact us to follow up. Please send your music, indicating any tracks with language that needs to be aired after 10 pm and including a one-sheet description and any biographical and tour information, to WORT Music Director, 118 S. Bedford St, Madison, WI 53703 and/or to musicdirector@wortfm.org.

We do accept digital files on .wav or mp3, but currently we still prefer CDs to digital submissions because it’s the quickest way to get it into the hands of our programmers and onto the airwaves, though we have a growing digital library. Digital submissions should be .wav or other lossless files, or high quality mp3s [128-320 kbps.]

You can follow up or “track” your submissions by email, or call 608-256-2001 on Wednesdays between 1-4 pm CST to ask if we received it, has it been reviewed, has it been added to our library, and what kind of airplay it’s getting—e.g. light, medium, heavy or charting. Thanks and we look forward to hearing your music!

Do you love early music? Carol, Alan and Sarah – the hosts of Musica Antiqua, one of the nation’s longest running early music radio programs – are looking for you to join the collective and host a monthly show. If you have knowledge of and enthusiasm for historically informed performances of Medieval, Renaissance, and Baroque music, please fill out a volunteer music host application (see below.) A minimum commitment of one year is required; training will be provided. Please apply by June 13, 2021 to ensure consideration. Email questions to musica.antiqua@wortfm.org.

The current show opening is for Musica Antiqua, which airs Sundays from 8-11 am, but our other Classical shows airing Monday through Friday from 5-8 am are also recruiting for substitute hosts to fill in on an ongoing basis if that fits your schedule better. Volunteer Job Description

Early Classical Music Host – Sunday Mornings (one week per month)

Classical Host Substitutes/Trainees (weekday mornings)

Time slots available: Once monthly on Sundays from 8-11 am (Musica Antiqua host rotation.) This program is focused on early music (Medieval, Renaissance, and Baroque composed before 1750.) Also needed: Sub classical hosts for Mondays through Fridays from 5-8 am.

Deadline: June 13 to ensure consideration for the Sunday monthly Musica Antiqua slot, but applications will be accepted on an ongoing basis.

Responsibilities: Host regular and sub air shifts as agreed, including on-air announcing and engineering. Select and program music within the show’s theme/genre (for Musica Antiqua, this is early classical music composed before 1750 played on period instruments.) Operate station equipment within FCC regulations and WORT policies, and enter your music playlists online. Participate in the station and our local music community in other ways such as sharing announcements and music from local artists; writing stories and blogs for our online outlets; reviewing new releases; attending fundraising and technical workshops, etc. [Weekdays only: Creatively select and integrate music with the BBC News headlines and Insurgent Radio Kiosk.]

Qualifications: A strong knowledge of and passion for classical music, especially composers and performers outside of the mainstream; familiarity with people, events and resources within our listening area; and enthusiasm for joining in our on- and off-air fundraising and outreach activities. Strong communication skills and dependability are crucial. An extensive personal music collection is a plus, but WORT also has a great music library available for your use. The ability to type in music playlists or have it done for you is required. No previous radio experience is necessary, all training will be provided.

All qualified applicants may also be trained to be on our list of substitute hosts if desired.
